Rehabilitation is the next step in recovery for many patients with amputations or new prosthetics. Treatments can begin before surgery. In rehabilitation hospital like HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia, rehabilitative care begins with pre-surgical counseling. The healing process is monitored post-surgery and throughout the rehabilitation hospital stay. Patients are progressed to outpatient therapy. Completing the continuum of care, amputee patients have the opportunity to come back to the hospital for inpatient or outpatient prosthetic training and community re-entry skills.
The goal of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia’s amputee rehabilitation program is to return patients to their highest level of independence at home, in the community and at work. Our individualized treatment plans help patients reach these goals.
Our amputee rehabilitation teams meet with the patient and family to obtain input for the plan of care. Structured patient and family education series provide information on skin care and maintenance of prosthesis as well as coping skills. Emotional support is available through a rehabilitation psychologist, patient peer advocates and wellness follow-up.
HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia provides discharge planning and continuing education to amputee patients through vocational and community re-entry education, transitional living, home evaluations and therapeutic home visits.
